Pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Senecio vulgaris sequestered and stored by Danaus plexippus
Abstract
Danaus plexippus reared on Asclepias curassavica, sprayed with homogenized leaves of Senecio vulgaris, were found to contain mean pyrrolizidine alkaloid concentrations of 38.8±6.08 μg/male butterfly and 16.5 ± 3–63 μg/female butterfly.
